Officiating & Reviews
- What is VAR in soccer?
VAR (Video Assistant Referee) is a system where officials review video to correct clear errors in four game-changing situations: goals, penalty decisions, direct red cards, and mistaken identity. - How does instant replay work in the NFL?
NFL instant replay lets coaches challenge certain calls and allows officials to automatically review scoring plays, turnovers, and other key plays. The referee reviews video and either upholds or overturns the ruling on the field. - What does a certified sports official cost to train for?
Expect a course fee plus the cost of uniforms and gear, and the total varies by sport and state. Local referee associations usually post current fees, so check there before enrolling. - How do I challenge a line call in volleyball?
Most volleyball games do not allow a formal challenge, so line calls are usually settled by the officials on court. Some events use electronic review, so check the rules first.
